This means ICE agents can now arrest parents at school drop-off, detain patients in emergency rooms, and raid churches during Sunday services. These spaces were once considered safe. Now, they are targets.
Communities are already fighting back. School districts across the country are refusing to comply. Many are enacting policies to block ICE from entering campuses without a judicial warrant, while faith leaders and healthcare providers are standing firm in their commitment to protect those in need.
Without action from governors, ICE will still have the power to tear families apart in these critical spaces. We cannot allow that to happen.
Governors have the authority to stop this. They can block local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE, prohibit the use of state resources for mass deportations, and take legal action against the federal government for violating constitutional rights. Some states, like California, Illinois, and New Jersey, have already pledged resistance. But many others have remained silent. And every day they wait, ICE gets closer to storming classrooms, clinics, and churches across the country.
The Trump administration wants total obedience. They want states to step aside and let ICE operate without limits. But if enough governors stand their ground, we can stop them.
We have seen what happens when communities push back when leaders refuse to comply and when people demand justice. Trump backed down on family separations before. We must force him to back down again.
