Das ist eine sehr coole #Podcast-Episode über die #PDA-Zeit mit #Palm, Apple #Newton und Co.

Ich war auch begeisterter Palm-Nutzer und weine vielen Features von #DateBk6 nach, die ich seither nirgendwo mehr gesehen habe (außer mein Nachbau davon mit #Orgmode).

Für Nostalgiker sehr empfehlenswert. 👍

Edit: mein Favorit damals: Palm #Tungsten T3 mit DateBk6 (extra gekauft). Das war damals wirklich 🤯 gut.

Edit2: inlovewithpda.com/ wird dort erwähnt und ist sehr cool gemacht.

It's that yearly moment where I reminisce about my Palm PDAs and Pocket PCs of old, and I realize that I actually miss the stupid Palm Graffiti alphabet as a stylus driven input method.

When you got good at it, you could jot down things shockingly quick. Unfortunately, It also ended up shaping my already weird and shitty handwriting into something weirder and shittier still.

I haven't been comfortable taking notes on anything not keyboard driven since.

A picture of the Palm Pilot Graffiti Reference Card, acting as a flash card/cheat sheet for the stylus driven input system on an old PDA. It lists every letter and how to draw them with the stylus, using a heaving point as start of the letter. Every letter is traced using more or less a single stroke, except for X.

v0.3 of Heffalump (a Mastodon client for PalmOS) is out now! This release (finally) adds the ability to view your own past toots, as well as replies (to both your own and others' toots).

I released my first commercial software (CRM under DOS) at the age of 9, and my first open-source project was NetLED: connection status, TX/RX activity using your keyboard's LEDs, written about once in #Linux Journal. One fantastic user wrote me to say he used keyboards as his Christmas tree decorations using it.

Later worked on #PalmOS apps (VFS QuickBack, FileCaddy, …) then moved to the web with #Perl, eventually #PHP, then ditched it like a hot potato for #Python.

It's The Way™.
