Brooke Binkowski is a former radio reporter and a fact checker and debunker. She writes for @damemagazine about how to steer clear of disinformation and protect yourself in Trump’s second presidency. “Do not waste your time appealing to authority that has demonstrated they are unwilling to fight for you. Fact-checking is always important, but it is only effective on its own in a healthy democracy. We are not in a healthy democracy.”

Dame Magazine - · This Is How to Debunk the Onslaught of Disinformation - Dame MagazineSo here we are, back in a disinformation-riddled Trump administration. This time around, though, we have fewer journalists, no Twitter, and malevolent maniacs wrecking our federal government. History doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure rhymes. I’ve heard it again and again, along with that famous quote about history repeating itself first as tragedy and then

UK newspaper The Independent warns that Donald Trump's #misinformation about Ukraine and Zelensky threatens democracy and empowers authoritarian regimes. His distorted narratives risk global stability, calling for a strong response from leaders and the media.

Confronting Trump’s disinformation is essential to defending democratic values. Leaders like Keir Starmer set an example by standing firmly with #Ukraine. Silence only strengthens dangerous narratives.

So as much as I am a (somewhat) left-leaning person I cannot agree with parkrosepermsculture's statement more. Chronically Online Leftists are Energy Vampires, and God it's annoying.

The best Example I saw of this recently was #Vaush I was looking at a video of his on YouTube, and I saw a headline that caused my head to almost melt into a nutrient Paste that #RFKJR could feed to his GD #brainworm.

"Hillary Clinton was worse than we thought"

I assumed it was a 2016 or 2018 video or something, and then I looked at the publish date...

It was like 5-6 days ago.

#MyBrotherInChrist, why, in the name of God, Buddha, Brahmin, Confucius, Mohammed, Satan, the entire ancient Greek and Roman Pantheon, and all other Pantheons that ever existed are you still talking about how bad Hillary Clinton was, IN THE YEAR 2025 C.E.?!?!?? AFTER THE #Dogebag #coup ? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

So yeah, if you want proof of whether online leftists are truly worth our very limited energy that needs to be reserved for saving our fucking country, theres your proof that they are not.

So yeah, just be careful who you listen to.

Highly Recommend Parkrose permaculture on TikTok and YouTube tho.

“there are likely many complex and interrelated factors at play, including, inter alia, state actors (such as Russia and China) spreading #misinformation to sow distrust; the understandable desire to belong to and support a community that a person feels connected to and that speaks to their values; differences in cognitive thinking styles (numerous studies have found that conservatives may, in this cultural moment, be somewhat more susceptible to misinformation);” 9/11

#Politicalidentity has become one of the most significant – perhaps the most significant – variable predicting vaccine hesitancy, the embrace of vaccine #misinformation, distrust of relevant scientific institutions, perceptions of risk surrounding vaccines, and belief in the efficacy of disproven #COVID therapies (e.g., ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine). Indeed, numerous studies have shown a strong and growing association between vaccination hesitancy and ideology.” 6/11

Politics and vaccine #misinformation: A horrifyingly bad mix - Healthy Debate healthydebate.ca/2024/09/topic “2021 study by Angus Reid found that 55 per cent of the unvaccinated believed “#COVID19 is a conspiracy that is all about government control.” In other words, a large portion of the country believed or was open to conspiracy theories that likely increased vaccine hesitancy and, as a result, led to more deaths and hospitalizations.” 1/11

Healthy Debate · Politics and vaccine misinformation: A horrifyingly bad mix - Healthy DebateAntivaccine beliefs reside most often on the political right. We must confront this reality and devise evidence-informed strategies to counter this trend.
click.actionnetwork.orgMeta Reinstate Fact Checking This is how fascism starts. State takeover of the media starts with voluntary self-censorship. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is falling all over himself with his Trump-directed apologies for ever thinking Facebook should be responsible for preventing itself from becoming an X-like cesspool of lies and disinformation. Announcing the end of fact-checking on his platforms, Zuckerberg says he thinks it will “take another ten years” of fact-free operation before Meta is “back to the place that it maybe could have been if I hadn’t messed that up in the first place.” Zuckerberg cites the “cultural tipping point” of Trump’s election as the deciding factor in choosing to dismantle Meta’s entire fact-checking apparatus. By which he means, his need to align with power rather than speak truth to it. Trump is plenty pleased with Zuckerberg’s kow-towing, which comes on the heels of the Meta CEO’s recent ring-kissing trip to Mar-A-Lago. The president-elect praised the move, saying “I think they’ve come a long way.” Could his threats to put Zuckerberg in prison have caused the change in policy, a reporter asked. “Probably,” said the dictator-to-be. Fascism starts with just this kind of full-blown appeasement. Meta must protect its users from malicious content, not censor their own fact-checking to curry favor with Trump and give in to his autocratic bullying. Not only will Zuckerberg release most of the 40,000 fact checkers based in hundreds of small organizations he has hired to check on the accuracy of his platforms’ posts, but he also announced Meta will be moving what little remains of his “trust and safety” workers from California to Texas, “where there’s less concern about the bias of our teams.” So Texas workers will be less “biased” than California workers? As Dan Evon of the nonprofit News Literacy Project notes, the move “provides an air of legitimacy to a popular disinformation narrative: that fact-checking is politically biased.” Yet the political bias of Zuckerberg’s announcement is impossible to miss. Not only will these changes allow, in his words, more “bad stuff” to circulate on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, but Meta will be retooling its AI systems, eliminating the demotion of problematic content such as posts that describe homosexuality as a mental illness. Facebook has already been taking steps in this direction, such as allowing candidates in the 2024 election to claim without evidence that the 2020 election was “stolen” and scaling back its Voter Information Center, replacing continuous updates about the election from groups like the Bipartisan Policy Center with static links to government websites. No doubt Zuckerberg also has his eyes on thwarting the FTC’s lawsuit to break up Meta. Trump’s pick to replace Lina Khan as FTC Chair, Andrew Ferguson, has already signaled he plans to target not the biggest conglomerates, but rather those companies that “facilitate or promote censorship.” Instead of fact-checking, Meta will follow the lead of Musk’s X by providing user-generated “Community Notes.” However, not only will these posts be drowned out among other user content, but to be posted they will require agreement among ideologically divergent users. In other words, these notes will need to be MAGA-friendly to even show up on the site. Click ‘START WRITING’ to sign and send a direct message to tell Mark Zuckerberg and Meta’s Facebook, Instagram and Threads: The truth is not based on public opinion. Meta has a public responsibility to prevent massive misinformation. Reinstate fact checking now!
